New Working at Height Procedure – Important Update for Contractors

Mitie has announced the introduction of our new Working at Height (WaH) Procedure, setting out mandatory minimum safety requirements for all contractors and suppliers working on its behalf.

The company says the update is part of its ongoing commitment to keeping people safe and maintaining consistent, high standards across its supply chain, particularly in activities where there is a risk of falls.

Strengthening safety standards

The procedure applies to any work at height, including tasks carried out on ladders, roofs, fragile surfaces, or near openings. All suppliers undertaking such activities are required to comply with the new requirements.

The guidance is designed to improve how work at height is planned and delivered, while ensuring a consistent approach to safety across all sites.

What suppliers need to do

Organisations working with Mitie are expected to take immediate action to align with the procedure. This includes:

  • Briefing teams on the updated requirements
  • Embedding the procedure into planning and site activities
  • Ensuring compliance before any work at height begins

Failure to comply may result in work being stopped and further compliance action being taken where necessary.

The full Working at Height Procedure must be read and followed by all suppliers carrying out work at height.

The announcement underlines our continued focus on strengthening safety practices and reducing risk across its operations and supply chain.
